Enter a total price and a quantity for any item to find the cost per unit of measure. Eleven unit types are available: Acre, Linear Foot, Ounce, Pound, Round, Share, Square Foot, Square Inch, Square Meter, Unit, and Weight. When two or more items share a compatible dimension (area or mass), their prices convert into every related unit so direct comparison is straightforward.

• Type a label into the Item Name field to identify each entry. The name is optional but helps distinguish rows when comparing multiple items.
• Enter the Total Price paid for the item. Accepted formats include decimals (24.99), fractions (49/2), mixed numbers (24 3/4), values with dollar signs ($24.99), and values with commas (1,250.00).
• Enter the Quantity purchased in the same flexible formats: decimals, fractions (3/4), mixed numbers (5 1/2), or scientific notation (1.5e3).
• Select the Unit that matches the quantity from the dropdown. Area units (Acre, Square Foot, Square Inch, Square Meter) and mass units (Ounce, Pound) form conversion groups. Standalone units (Linear Foot, Round, Share, Unit, Weight) do not convert to other types.
• Click Calculate or wait for the automatic calculation after a brief pause. The Results section displays the price per selected unit for each row.
• Click Add Item to insert additional rows for side-by-side comparison. Each row has a Remove button to delete it. When two or more rows use units from the same dimension group, the Comparison section ranks them from lowest to highest normalized cost.
• Click Settings to adjust Decimal Places, toggle Show unit conversions for converted prices in compatible units, or check Show step-by-step formulas to reveal the division behind each result.
• Click Reset to clear all rows, remove saved state, and restore a single blank row with default values.

The core formula is: Price Per Unit = Total Price / Quantity. Area conversions normalize to square feet (1 Acre = 43,560 sq ft, 1 Square Meter = 10.7639 sq ft, 144 Square Inches = 1 sq ft). Mass normalizes to pounds (16 Ounces = 1 Pound).

Comparing costs across different package sizes, lot areas, or bulk quantities requires a common price-per-unit baseline. Normalizing to one unit reveals the better deal in each scenario.

• Grocery Shopping: A 32-ounce jar of peanut butter costs $7.49 and a 12-ounce jar costs $3.29. Entering both rows with Ounce as the unit shows $0.2341 per ounce versus $0.2742 per ounce, confirming the larger jar is cheaper per ounce.
• Real Estate: A 0.75-acre lot listed at $112,500 and a 2-acre parcel at $280,000 both convert to price per square foot. The comparison ranks them so a buyer sees which parcel costs less per square foot without manual conversion.
• Bulk Meat Purchasing: A 5-pound pork shoulder at $14.95 and an 80-ounce turkey breast at $12.80 use different mass units. The calculator normalizes both to price per pound and price per ounce for an apples-to-apples comparison.
• Flooring Materials: Hardwood sold at $4.29 per square foot and tile sold at $38.00 per square meter need a common denominator. Entering each with its native unit and enabling conversions shows both prices per square foot and per square meter.
• Ammunition Pricing: A box of 50 rounds at $18.99 and a bulk case of 500 rounds at $164.00 entered with Round as the unit display $0.3798 and $0.3280 per round, confirming the bulk case offers a lower cost per round.
• Stock Lot Pricing: A single share at $152.30 versus a lot of 100 shares at $15,100 entered with Share as the unit reveals whether the lot includes a volume discount.
• Manufacturing: Raw material quoted at $2.10 per linear foot in one catalog and $850 for a 500-linear-foot roll in another confirms whether the roll price undercuts the per-foot quote.
• Event Planning: Venue A charges $1,200 for 400 square feet and Venue B charges $3,500 for 1,200 square feet. Price per square foot for each venue reveals which space fits the budget.
