This concrete calculator determines the volume, weight, and cost of concrete needed for common construction shapes. It supports slabs, driveways, columns, round footings, cylinders, tubes, walls, and stairs. Select a shape, enter dimensions, and receive instant results including bag estimates for standard premixed concrete bags.
- Select the Shape that matches your project. Choose from Slab / Driveway, Column / Round Footing, Cylinder / Tube, Wall, or Stairs.
- Choose your preferred Unit System. Imperial mode uses feet and inches. Metric mode uses meters and centimeters.
- Enter the dimensions for your selected shape. All numeric fields accept decimals (0.75), fractions (3/4), and mixed numbers (5 1/2).
- Click Calculate or wait for the automatic calculation to run after a brief pause. Results update in real time as you type.
- Review the volume in cubic feet, cubic yards, or cubic meters depending on your unit selection. Weight and cost estimates appear below the volume result.
- Check the Bag Estimates section to see how many 40 lb, 60 lb, or 80 lb premixed bags you need. All bag counts round up to the nearest whole bag.
- Open Settings to adjust the cost per cubic yard (or cubic meter), concrete density, waste factor percentage, and step-by-step display. The waste factor adds a percentage buffer to all estimates to account for spillage, uneven surfaces, and over-excavation.
- Click Reset to clear all inputs and restore default values. Your selections and inputs persist automatically between visits using browser storage.
- Enable Show step-by-step calculations in Settings to display the full formula breakdown for each shape, including unit conversions and waste adjustments.
The slab volume formula is Length x Width x Depth. The column formula is pi x (Diameter / 2)^2 x Height x Quantity. The cylinder (tube) formula subtracts the inner volume from the outer volume: pi x ((OuterDiameter / 2)^2 - (InnerDiameter / 2)^2) x Height. The wall formula is Length x Height x Thickness. The stairs formula sums the volume of each step as a rectangular prism plus the platform volume.
