This tire size calculator computes and compares the physical dimensions of two tires based on their standard tire codes. Enter the tire code parameters for your current tire and a new tire to see a detailed breakdown of each tire's dimensions along with a side-by-side comparison showing the differences in diameter, circumference, revolutions per mile, and the impact on your speedometer reading.

  • Select the Vehicle Type for each tire from the dropdown menu. Options include P (Passenger), LT (Light Truck), ST (Special Trailer), and T (Temporary).
  • Enter the Section Width in millimeters. This is the three-digit number at the start of the tire code (for example, 215 in P215/65R15). You can type fractions like 3/4 or mixed numbers like 5 1/2 in any numeric field.
  • Enter the Aspect Ratio as a whole number. This represents the ratio of the sidewall height to the section width as a percentage (for example, 65 means the sidewall is 65% of the width).
  • Select the Construction type. R (Radial) is the most common for passenger vehicles, while D (Diagonal) and B (Bias-Belted) are less common.
  • Enter the Wheel Diameter in inches. This is the rim size the tire is designed to fit (for example, 15 in P215/65R15).
  • Click the Calculate button or wait for the automatic calculation to update after you finish typing.
  • Open Settings to switch between Imperial (inches and miles) and Metric (millimeters and kilometers) units. Enable Show step-by-step calculations to see the formulas and intermediate values used to compute each result.
  • Click the Reset button to clear all saved data and restore the default tire codes.

The calculator uses the following formulas. Section Height equals Section Width multiplied by Aspect Ratio divided by 100. Overall Diameter equals Wheel Diameter (converted to the display unit) plus 2 times the Section Height. Circumference equals pi times the Overall Diameter. Revolutions per mile (or kilometer) equals the distance divided by the circumference.
