Cake Serving Calculator

Cake serving counts come from dividing the cake's top surface area by the area of a single portion, then rounding down. Round, square, and rectangular (sheet) cakes are all supported: a round cake needs its diameter and height, a square cake its side length and height, and a rectangle its length, width, and height.

• Party portions are 2" x 2", a generous cut common at casual gatherings.
• Wedding portions are 1.5" x 2", the thinner, elegant cut standard at formal receptions.

The formula is servings = cake area ÷ portion area, rounded down. Round cake area is π × (diameter ÷ 2)². Square area is side × side. Rectangle area is length × width. With the waste factor on, the raw count is multiplied by 0.9 before rounding.
