Documentation

Decide what to eat by generating random dish suggestions drawn from a built-in database of over 200 meals spanning 15 cuisines. Filter results by meal type, cuisine, and dietary restriction so every suggestion fits your needs.

  • Select a Meal Type from the dropdown to narrow results to breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, or dessert dishes. Leave it set to "Any" to pull from all categories.
  • Choose a Cuisine to restrict suggestions to a specific culinary tradition such as Italian, Japanese, Indian, or Thai. The "Any" option draws from every cuisine in the database.
  • Pick a Dietary Restriction if you need vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, keto, or paleo options. Setting this to "None" returns all dishes regardless of dietary classification.
  • Type any ingredients you want to avoid into the Ingredients to Exclude field, separated by commas. The generator removes any dish whose key ingredients overlap with your exclusion list. For example, entering "nuts, shellfish" filters out peanut-based sauces and shrimp dishes.
  • Set the Number of Suggestions to control how many dish ideas appear at once. Enter any value from 1 to 20.
  • Click Generate to produce a fresh set of random dish ideas. Each result displays the dish name, its cuisine, and its meal type.
  • Open the Settings panel to toggle dish descriptions on or off and to enable or disable the repeat-avoidance feature that tracks recently shown dishes.
  • Click Reset to restore all filters and settings to their defaults and clear the results area.
  • All selections persist automatically between visits. Reloading the page restores your last configuration so you can generate new ideas without re-entering filters.
  • Bookmark the page after configuring your filters to return to the same setup later without re-entering selections.

Meal indecision affects households, meal preppers, and food enthusiasts equally. A randomized suggestion removes the mental overhead of choosing what to cook or order. The following scenarios illustrate where this generator adds value.

  • Weeknight dinner planning: Set the meal type to Dinner and the cuisine to Any, then generate five suggestions. Pick the one that matches the ingredients already in your pantry and skip the 30-minute deliberation that delays cooking.
  • Meal prep variety: Generate 10 lunch ideas filtered to a specific dietary restriction such as keto or vegan. Use the list to plan five days of lunches with two alternating options per day, preventing the monotony that derails meal prep routines.
  • Exploring new cuisines: Select an unfamiliar cuisine such as Ethiopian or Vietnamese and generate a batch of suggestions. Look up recipes for the dish names that interest you and expand your cooking repertoire without browsing dozens of recipe sites.
  • Allergy-safe group meals: Enter known allergens in the exclusion field (for example, "nuts, dairy, gluten") and generate dinner options that everyone at the table can eat safely. Share the filtered list with the group to reach consensus faster.
  • Restaurant decision-making: Narrow by cuisine and meal type to mirror a restaurant menu category, then let the generator pick a dish direction. Arrive at the restaurant knowing what style of entree you want instead of scanning the full menu under pressure.
  • Cooking challenge or game night: Set the suggestion count to 1 and hit Generate repeatedly to assign random dishes to participants in a cook-off. Restrict the cuisine or dietary filters to set difficulty or theme constraints for the challenge.
  • Snack inspiration: Filter to the Snack meal type and generate ideas when mid-afternoon cravings hit. Exclude ingredients you do not have on hand to keep every suggestion actionable.
  • Kids meal rotation: Generate breakfast and lunch ideas filtered to exclude common dislikes. Print or save the list for the week to reduce daily negotiation with picky eaters.
