Morphological Matrix Builderv1.0.0

Morphological analysis matrix where each row defines a parameter and each cell lists one option. The Cartesian product across rows enumerates the full solution space; rows can be grouped, hidden, drag-reordered, or filtered, and entire matrices import and export as JSON, CSV, or XLSX. Four bundled presets cover Product Design, Remote Work Policy, Smart City Infrastructure, and Business Model Generator.

Documentation

Use the Morphological Matrix Builder to structure a complex problem into clear dimensions and options. Each row represents a dimension or parameter (for example, Power Source, Material, User Type). Each column provides an option slot within that dimension (for example, Solar, Metal, Adult). By filling cells with candidate options, you create a design space that the tool can traverse to generate full concept combinations.

Follow these steps to build and analyze your matrix. The interface supports inline editing, drag and drop for reordering, visibility toggles for filtering, and local saving. Use presets to load a starter layout, or import structured data to accelerate setup.

  • Select a preset or set Number of Rows and Number of Columns, then name the matrix.
  • Edit row headers to define dimensions; edit column headers to label option slots.
  • Fill cells with options. Double-click a cell to edit. Paste links if useful; the tool will render them as anchors.
  • Assign rows to groups, then use the Show only group filter to focus on a subset during workshops.
  • Toggle visibility of rows and columns to create scoped views. Click Clear Filters to reset.
  • Drag column headers to reorder slots. Drag row headers to reorder dimensions.
  • Click Save Matrix to store it locally. Use Export Matrix (JSON) for backup or collaboration.
  • Import from JSON, CSV, or XLSX. The first column becomes row headers; the first row becomes column headers.
  • Click Export Combinations (JSON/CSV) to generate all visible combinations for downstream analysis.

Core logic and formulas:

  • Total combinations = product over visible rows of the number of visible, non-empty options in that row.
  • If any visible row has zero visible options, total combinations = 0.
  • Combination generation uses depth-first enumeration across rows to build complete option sets.
  • Filtering logic: when a group is selected, only rows in that group remain visible; combination generation uses the current visibility state.

Use the Morphological Matrix Builder to spark innovation in fields that require structured exploration of diverse options. By breaking problems into dimensions and combining possibilities, you can uncover unexpected opportunities and design robust solutions in areas beyond product or policy planning.

  • Event Planning and Logistics: Map out venue types, catering styles, entertainment formats, and guest engagement activities to generate complete event scenarios that balance budget and impact.
  • Creative Writing and Storytelling: Combine genres, character archetypes, settings, and conflict types to outline unique story ideas or worldbuilding options for novels, screenplays, or video games.
  • Culinary Innovation: Cross-reference cuisines, cooking techniques, ingredients, and presentation styles to develop new recipe concepts or menu experiments for restaurants and food startups.
  • Marketing Campaign Design: Explore audiences, messaging angles, distribution channels, and call-to-action formats to create campaign blueprints tailored for reach and conversion.
  • Personal Productivity Systems: Test combinations of time management methods, task tools, focus techniques, and reward systems to design a productivity strategy aligned with personal habits.
  • Sustainability Strategies: Align waste reduction methods, sourcing practices, packaging materials, and logistics choices to model eco-friendly solutions for supply chains.
  • Health and Wellness Programs: Create combinations of exercise routines, nutrition approaches, mental health practices, and accountability systems to shape balanced lifestyle plans.
  • Art and Design Exploration: Pair mediums, color palettes, textures, and themes to inspire new artistic projects or design directions without relying on trial and error alone.

These creative applications show how the matrix can move beyond technical or business scenarios. By reframing challenges into dimensions and options, you can generate diverse combinations that inspire fresh thinking, encourage collaboration, and expand the boundaries of what is possible in your domain.
