Word Counterv1.0.0
Counts words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, and paragraphs in pasted text, with optional Flesch reading score and reading-time estimate. A goal-and-timer mode tracks progress against a word or character target over a configurable interval (default 15 minutes). Auto-save runs every 30 seconds, optional cleanup strips formatting before counting, and case can be transformed to upper, lower, sentence, or title case.
Documentation
Paste or type your text into the main input area to measure word count, character count, sentence count, paragraph count, readability, and estimated reading time. Click Count to update the results, or rely on automatic updates as you type. Use the Settings panel to enable optional features that support editing, formatting, and writing goals.
Understand how the calculator works to ensure accurate results. The tool counts words by splitting on visible whitespace. It counts sentences by locating sentence-ending punctuation marks such as period, question mark, and exclamation point. It detects paragraphs by blank lines. It estimates readability with the Flesch Reading Score using the formula: 206.835 − 1.015 × (words ÷ sentences) − 84.6 × (syllables ÷ words). It estimates reading time with: minutes = ceil(words ÷ 200). It also supports character count without spaces for platforms that set strict limits.
- Paste text with the Paste button or press standard keyboard shortcuts, then click Count.
- Enable Clean Text to remove extra line breaks, normalize spaces, and replace problem characters before counting.
- Choose a Case option to transform text into upper case, lower case, sentence case, or title case. Select “None” to restore the original text.
- Toggle extra metrics in Output Settings to view character count without spaces, sentence count, paragraph count, Flesch Reading Score, and reading time.
- Set a Goal for words or characters, then write until the counter meets or exceeds your target.
- Turn on Timed Writing, pick minutes, and start the session to focus on drafting without distractions.
- Import a .txt file with Upload or export your current text with Export as .txt to save a snapshot.
