Time Calculator

The time calculator performs arithmetic on time values: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division across hours, minutes, and seconds. Values can be entered and returned in standard time notation, decimal hours, total minutes, or total seconds, whichever format suits a scheduling, billing, or duration-planning task.

• A time value accepts several formats: 2:30:45 (2 hours, 30 minutes, 45 seconds), 2.5 (2.5 hours), 150 (150 minutes), or 9000 (9000 seconds).
• Addition combines two time periods; subtraction finds the difference between them; multiplication scales a time value by a factor; division splits a time value into equal portions.
• Settings can pin the input format, H:M:S, decimal hours, total minutes, or total seconds, so the two values are interpreted consistently, or independently if the two values are given in different formats.
• Output format can be set to hours:minutes:seconds, decimal hours, total minutes, total seconds, or all four at once.
• A step-by-step view under settings shows the conversion and arithmetic behind the result.
• Negative results, useful for surfacing overruns or time deficits, are optional and off by default.

Standard time notation (1:30:45), decimal hours (1.5), and plain numbers for total minutes or total seconds all work as inputs. Multiplication and division treat the second value as a plain multiplier or divisor expressed in hours rather than a duration in its own right, while addition and subtraction combine or compare two actual durations directly. Negative results, when enabled, surface overruns and time deficits instead of clamping a difference to zero.

Exact hour, minute, and second arithmetic comes up in project estimates, freelance billing, shift scheduling, and study planning, wherever a duration must convert cleanly between time formats.

• Project Management: task durations summed (2:30:00 + 1:45:00 = 4:15:00) estimate total project time; completed time subtracted from allocated time tracks remaining hours.
