Convert between 23 length units ranging from microinches to parsecs. Enter a value, select the source and target units, and receive a result with configurable decimal precision. The converter accepts fractions, mixed numbers, decimals, and scientific notation.

  • Enter the numeric value you want to convert in the Value field. Accepted formats include whole numbers (42), decimals (3.14), fractions (3/4), mixed numbers (5 1/16 or 1-3/8), and scientific notation (1.5e3).
  • Select the source unit from the From dropdown menu. Available units include Centimeters, Chains, Decimeters, Furlongs, Inches, Kilometers, Leagues, Lightyears, Meters, Microinches, Micrometers, Microns, Miles, Millimeters, Nautical Miles, Nautical Miles I, Parsecs, UK Leagues, UK Nautical Leagues, UK Nautical Miles, US Leagues, US Nautical Miles, and Yards.
  • Select the target unit from the To dropdown menu. Use the Swap control to quickly reverse the conversion direction without reselecting both units.
  • Click the Convert button or simply wait for the automatic calculation to update after a brief pause. Results appear in the Result section below the form.
  • Open Settings to adjust the number of decimal places displayed in the result. Choose from 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 decimal places depending on the precision required.
  • Enable the Show step-by-step formula checkbox in Settings to view the conversion formula with your substituted values. This feature is useful for verifying calculations or learning conversion relationships.
  • Click the Reset button to restore all fields to their default values and clear any saved settings. The converter defaults to converting Centimeters to Inches with 4 decimal places.

The conversion formula multiplies the input value by the ratio of the source unit factor to the target unit factor. Each unit has a defined relationship to meters as the base unit. For example, converting 100 centimeters to inches uses the formula: value x (centimeter factor / inch factor) = 100 x (0.01 / 0.0254) = 39.3701 inches.

Length conversions arise in countless professional, academic, and everyday scenarios. This tool covers a wide spectrum of units from microscopic measurements to astronomical distances, making it suitable for diverse fields and applications.

  • Construction and Engineering: Convert between yards, inches, meters, and centimeters when working with building plans that use different measurement systems. Ensure material specifications match project requirements across metric and imperial standards.
  • Education and Science: Verify unit conversion homework and practice problems using the step-by-step formula display. Explore relationships between metric prefixes such as micrometers, millimeters, centimeters, and kilometers.
  • Navigation and Maritime: Convert between nautical miles, statute miles, and kilometers for maritime route planning. Compare UK Nautical Miles, US Nautical Miles, and international Nautical Miles to understand regional variations.
  • Astronomy and Space Science: Convert lightyears and parsecs to kilometers or miles when studying stellar distances. Express interstellar measurements in familiar terrestrial units for presentations or educational materials.
  • Manufacturing and Precision Work: Convert between microinches, micrometers, and microns for precision machining tolerances. Translate specifications between imperial microinch measurements and metric micrometer equivalents.
  • Land Surveying: Convert between chains, furlongs, leagues, and modern metric or imperial units when interpreting historical land records. Translate older survey measurements into current standards for property documentation.
  • International Commerce: Convert product dimensions between centimeters and inches for cross-border shipping documentation. Ensure packaging specifications meet requirements in both metric and imperial markets.
  • Athletics and Sports: Convert race distances between kilometers and miles for international competition comparisons. Translate field event measurements between metric and imperial systems for multi-country result tables.
