The pressure converter switches a value between 13 pressure units spanning metric, imperial, and scientific systems, treating newtons per square meter as a distinct entry from pascals even though the two are numerically identical: Atmospheres, Bar, Inches of Mercury, Inches of Water, Kilogram-force per Square Meter, Millibar, Millimeters of Mercury, Millimeters of Water, Newtons per Square Meter, Pascals, Pound-force per Square Inch (PSI), Pounds per Square Foot, and Torrs.

  • Values accept whole numbers (42), decimals (3.14), fractions (3/4), mixed numbers (5 1/16 or 1-3/8), and scientific notation (1.5e3).
  • Each unit has a fixed relationship to pascals, the base unit, and the result multiplies the input by the source unit's factor divided by the target unit's factor.
  • A swap control reverses the source and target units without re-selecting either one.

Converting 1 atmosphere to pascals: value x (atmosphere factor / pascal factor) = 1 x (101325 / 1) = 101,325 pascals, the standard atmospheric pressure at sea level. The same factor divides for the reverse direction, so 101,325 pascals converts back to 1 atmosphere, or equivalently 1013.25 millibars, a figure meteorologists recognize as a standard-pressure reference point. At the vacuum end of the scale, 1 torr equals one seven-hundred-sixtieth of an atmosphere, or about 133.32 pascals, matching the older millimeter-of-mercury unit still used in vacuum-system readings. At the high-pressure end, 1 pound-force per square inch equals about 6894.76 pascals, the factor behind converting a 30 PSI tire spec into roughly 2.07 bar.
